I was driving through one of the by-lanes of South Bopal when this signage of " Purani Delhi " caught my attention. It was a new restaurant in this area (I live nearby) and there are not many restaurants in this side of the city. We have plenty of small eateries and pick-up places, and any new eating place is always welcome. :) This is started by a well-known food chain Gwalia . Gwalia is reinventing itself from the sweet mart and snack set-up to full-fledged restaurants. Some times ago, they have opened a South Indian buffet restaurant, Vannakam in Ahmedabad. As they say, some people come in your life like a breath of fresh air and Fatema is one of them. It was a chance meeting when I along with my cofounding partner Preeti of KARMBHOOMI were looking for a venue to host an event. There is an upcoming new mall on the western side of Ahmedabad and we were keen to host our event there. Before meeting Fatema, we visited few other cafe owners but somehow nothing was finalized. Her cafe named "Ludo Queens Cafe" painted in bright colours caught our attention. We went to explore and the manager gave us her number. She told us to wait as she was on her way to the cafe. While waiting for her in the cafe, we felt very positive vibes in the place. She came with a broad smile and there was an instant connection. We had tea together. She also served us with some of her signature dishes. And we struck the deal. Our event at her cafe was a hit and we kept in touch since then. It was in my last kitty when I had a chance to visit this newly opened eating joint. The last-minute change of venue took our kitty group in front of this newly opened restaurant. In the last few years, South Bopal has seen many outlets serving South Indian cuisines. Vandanam is the latest addition to this ever-increasing eateries. My first impression was a feeling of positivity. Seating was okay, not crumpled. The decor is simplistic and minimalistic. It is a buffet restaurant with 20+ dishes on the offering. You will find popular dishes like dosa, idli, vada, sambhar, and rasam along with Malabar paranthas and accompaniments like coconut chutney etc. The welcome drink was refreshing. The dessert is Kesari, a permanent fixture in all South Indian cuisine restaurants. And all this for a price of 299 per head. Isn't it worth trying?
